Dasein comes from the German, literally meaning there-being, translated as existence. This term was first presented by Martin Heidegger in his work Being and Time. Dasein for Heidegger was a way of being involved with and caring for the immediate world in which one lived, while always remaining aware of the contingent element of that involvement, of the priority of the world to the self, and of the evolving nature of the self itself.
Through the deconstruction of the self the viewer becomes aware of its interminable layers, its manifestation of existence and temporality.
Our body is constructed in such a way that each organ embraces the other. The heart is surrounded by the lungs which are themselves protected by the ribs and finally by the skin. It is as if our body structure was constructed with the idea of a ceaseless hug.
