Doug Galante

is an American printmaker. His work is a response to his curiosity with internal mental states (such as dreaming or being in a mental state of solitude) and how we process those experiences. The visual language of his work is mostly abstract, using pattern and repetition to evoke a sense of structure and simplicity within something complex. Although his work uses a conceptual basis as a starting point, it is mostly propelled by his desire for exploration and discovery. Each sequential work making some kind of step towards realization of what it means to create as an artist.  Galante received a BFA from the University of Michigan in 2010 focusing in printmaking, specifically woodcuts. He uses this traditional relief technique for its unique color layering qualities and hand carved aesthetic.
