is a self-taught minimalist with no formal training in photography. He studied art direction at the Texas Creative program at University of Texas at Austin, renowned for its intense focus on simplicity and artfulness in advertising. After ten years as an award-winning commercial art director, he began dabbling in minimalist photography with a colorful twist.
His style of photography was an instant success, gaining him tens of thousands of Instagram followers in just a few weeks. Matt attributes his sudden rise to his distinctive use of candy-colored negative space, surreal compositions, offbeat subjects, and an endless-summer vibe.
He’s been recognized multiple times by Instagram and BuzzFeed for creating the entirely new sub-genre of minimalist photography, which Matt calls “candy-colored minimalism.”
